Matthew — Specialist Massage Practitioner in Centurion, Pretoria
Founder of Kahe Hands | 30 Years of Experience | Immersive Experience & Personalised Massage
You've Had Massages Before. This Should Feel Different.
You know the difference between someone following a massage routine and someone who genuinely understands their craft.
Perhaps you have booked massages at excellent establishments, enjoyed the experience and returned to your demanding schedule feeling temporarily refreshed. Or perhaps you have a recurring muscular concern and find yourself explaining the same problem at every appointment. What you are looking for now is something more considered.
A practitioner who listens before beginning. Who understands how different areas of the body influence one another. Who knows when focused pressure is appropriate, when a flowing movement is more effective for your comfort and when the best thing to do is simply allow you to rest.
Meet Matthew, founder of Kahe Hands Wellness Studio in Centurion.
With approximately 30 years of experience in massage and bodywork, Matthew has developed an individual approach that draws from Hawaiian Lomi Lomi, Sports Massage, Deep Tissue Massage, Myofascial Release, reflexology, acupressure and movement-based techniques.
His work is not defined by one massage style. It is defined by the ability to select and combine techniques with purpose.
For clients who appreciate exceptional personal attention and the experience that comes from decades of practice, Matthew offers something distinctly his own.

"Matthew is an absolute master of his craft. His massages are truly outstanding, but what sets him apart is his expertise in functional mobilisation, particularly when addressing injuries & problem areas. He has an incredible understanding of the body and approaches each treatment with skill & precision. His ability to identify and work on problem areas, while understanding the body's mechanics, is exceptional. He is more than just a massage therapist; he is a true specialist who takes immense pride in his work. His passion for what he does is evident in every session."
Thirty Years of Experience Changes the Way You Approach a Body
Experience is not simply the number of massages performed. It is what a practitioner learns from working with different people, different bodies and different responses over many years. repeating a pattern for many years does not improve the technique.
Matthew's approach has been shaped by decades of practical observation, continual learning and the recognition that a physical complaint rarely tells the whole story. A client may arrive describing a stiff neck, yet also have restricted movement through the upper back. Another may experience tightness in the hips while spending long hours sitting. An active person may find that the discomfort they notice after training is influenced by how several areas of the body are working together.
These relationships are not automatic explanations for pain, and massage is not a substitute for medical assessment. They are reasons to look beyond a standard routine. Matthew considers how the body moves, where tension is experienced, how different techniques are tolerated, what the client wants to achieve and most importantly; 'Does that pain have significance beyond the body'.
He pays attention to the response beneath his hands, adjusting pressure, pace and direction rather than assuming that every area requires the same treatment and for clients who seek prayer, dedicates his attention to seeking God's guidance for healing.
The result is a massage shaped by the person on the table, not by a predetermined sequence.
The Immersive Experience — Matthew's Signature Offering
Some appointments are about addressing a specific muscular concern. Others are about something more difficult to put into words: the need to step away from responsibility, quieten the mind and reconnect with yourself.
Matthew's Immersive Experience was created for the second kind of need. Rooted predominantly in the flowing traditions of Hawaiian Lomi Lomi, this longer-form experience brings together continuous, connected massage movements, gentle body awareness, breath, aromatherapy and a calm, contemplative atmosphere.
Rather than moving mechanically from one muscle group to the next, Matthew works with the rhythm of the experience as a whole. The intention is to create a sense of continuity, allowing the client time to settle and become fully present.
The Immersive Experience may also incorporate quiet reflection, meditation or prayerfulness where welcomed by the client. These elements are offered with respect for individual beliefs and preferences. This is not simply a longer Deep Tissue Massage, nor is it designed around applying the strongest possible pressure. It is an invitation to experience massage as something more complete: attentive physical care, unhurried rest and a deeper sense of personal connection.
For someone accustomed to a demanding professional life, where every hour is allocated and every decision carries responsibility, that uninterrupted time can be particularly meaningful.
When Your Body Needs Focused Attention
Not every client comes to Matthew for an immersive experience. Some arrive with a specific concern: recurring muscular tightness, restricted movement, discomfort associated with long working hours or the physical demands of sport and exercise.
For these clients, Matthew's Fusion Massage provides a more focused approach. Drawing from his experience across multiple massage traditions, he can combine techniques according to the areas that need attention and the client's response. A session might involve focused muscular work, broader Hawaiian-inspired movements, myofascial techniques, assisted stretching or other appropriate methods. His approach to pressure is progressive. Rather than forcing through resistance, he pays attention to guarding, comfort and breathing, adapting the technique as the session develops.
He also considers the relationships between different parts of the body. Where relevant, the massage may extend beyond the area in which discomfort is most noticeable. The aim is not to promise a cure or to apply as many techniques as possible. It is to provide thoughtful, individualised bodywork that addresses the client's priorities. Two different clients may book the same duration and receive very different massages. That is intentional.

The Art of Knowing When Less Is More
One of the distinctions between an experienced practitioner and someone relying entirely on a routine is judgement.
A strong massage is not necessarily a deep massage. A longer session is not automatically a better session. And a painful area does not always benefit from direct pressure. Matthew's approach allows for variation. There are moments when focused muscular work is appropriate and others when slow, broad movements create a more comfortable experience. Some clients appreciate detailed explanations; others prefer quiet and uninterrupted rest.
The important thing is understanding what the person needs on that particular day. For Matthew, the art of massage lies partly in knowing what to do, but also in recognising what not to do.
Beyond Massage: Understanding Movement
Matthew's interest in bodywork extends beyond the massage table. Through his breath-led Movement Therapy work, he explores the relationship between breathing, body awareness, connective tissue and comfortable movement.
This approach encourages people to pay attention to how they move rather than simply pushing harder through restriction. He is particularly interested in the way small movements, gradual progression and breath awareness can help people explore their physical capabilities.
This movement perspective also informs his massage work. He recognises that what happens during an appointment is only one part of a person's physical experience; everyday movement, activity, rest and habits matter too.
For clients who value understanding their bodies, this creates an opportunity for a more informed conversation about their physical wellbeing.
Who Chooses Matthew?
Matthew is particularly suited to clients who want more than a conventional massage appointment.
The experienced massage client
You have received many massages and appreciate the difference between competent technique and the individual judgement that comes from years of practice.
The high-performing professional
Your working life demands constant attention. You want an appointment where you can hand over responsibility, switch off and enjoy an experience designed around you.
The physically active client
You place demands on your body through sport, training or an active lifestyle and value a practitioner who understands movement and focused muscular work.
The client seeking something more meaningful
You are not necessarily experiencing pain. You want an extended, flowing and deeply personal massage experience that gives you time to reconnect with yourself and God. You are looking for someone to hold space and pray for you. Someone whose Ego is not in the way of God's healing. These clients arrive with different expectations, but they share one preference: they want their massage to feel personal, purposeful and worth the time they have set aside.
